2020.09.24 07:06 Palmdeath I think I’ve lost attraction to my bf of 4 yrs, but I still love him.

I’m 24f he’s 23m. We’re hitting 4 years together in about 5 months, but it’s recently occurred to me that I don’t see him the same way that I used to. I find myself fantasizing about other men, and daydreaming about what it’d be like to date around, as I’ve always been in long term relationships and haven’t really done that.
we became close really quickly when we met. I met him immediately after exiting an abusive relationship, and was very alone as I lost all of my friends. I actually didn’t find him attractive at all at the start, and even thought he was unattractive. We’re opposites in many ways, and his appearance is not my usual preference. Over time, my sexual attraction grew and I was super into him physically. I just saw him differently the closer we got, perhaps through rose tinted glasses.
I’m not sure exactly when things changed, but we haven’t been having sex much for nearly a year, because I simply don’t have the desire to. Looking at him doesn’t incite the feeling it did before where I’d gaze and appreciate him and get excited; now I just sort of feel flat out un-attracted. I love cuddling him and spending time with him, we live together and everyday is fun, but I’m confused. Is this a normal dip most couples deal with long term? Is attraction something you work on and fight for?
We live together and have a dog. I know he loves me very much, and as much as part of me would like to test the waters and be best friends for a while to figure myself out, I don’t think it’s an option he’d be open to come back from. I think I’d lose him entirely and I can’t fathom breaking his heart like that.
I’m worried my needs were met by him when I was in a really dark place, and caused me to see him differently when at first I found him unattractive. Now that I’ve become more stable and independent, I’m worried about what’s next as I’ve felt no longer attracted to him.

2020.09.24 04:58 A-friendly-fellow WASTELAND 2 CALIFORNIA GAMEPLAN

Before we start, here's a quick summary of my team.
First is Caleb, the leader. He is a tank that (with varying degrees of success) takes all the hits and packs a wallop if he manages to land a hit, having a strength of 7, 375 CON and has the Heavy Handed trait. He has Leadership of 6 and, unfortunately, only 5 in Blunt and Heavy Weapons. He has perks that increase his bullet sponge effectiveness such as Weathered and Healthy as well as the Leadership debuffs Taunt and Enrage. Not Hardened though. Probably should get that.
The second is Ahusaka, the medic and also a gunslinger, not doing much damage but firing off many rounds during a, well, a round. At least that was the idea, it didn't work out very well. Extremely accurate with a coordination of 9 as well as the Mysophobic trait to boost his healing capabilities. Honestly, this was probably a mistake to put on a pistol user. He has a full 10 in Pistol and all the perks within that tree, same goes for the Field Medic perks, the skill being only at 7.
Next is Hisa, the thief with perhaps too many responsibilities. In combat she is so fast she's disappeared over the horizon before the others have even reached the door. This is in part due to her 7 speed and the Twitchy trait. She has only 241 CON but can hardly be hit with an evasion of... 10%. Which is more than Ralphy at 11% with 278 CON. With so many skills to keep up, with Lockpicking, Safecracking, Smart-Ass and it would've been Alarm Disarming if Rose didn't come along, her blade skill even reaching 7 is miraculous. It's unfortunate that there isn't many perks that increase evasion. Oh, except for the tree that she would've gone down if it wasn't for Rose. So, so annoying. Well, she has Turtle so that's something. I might consider getting Limber. I didn't realise crouching raises evasion even if you're not in cover.
Finally, my main damage dealer, Jessica. Her 7 Awareness means she's almost guaranteed to go first, until recently anyway, and her 8 Coordination and 9 in Sniper Rifle skill means she's almost guaranteed to hit. For now anyway. The Brittle Bones trait did not give her the option to shoot three times at the beginning like I had hoped but the decrease in speed isn't really an issue since she doesn't move. Until recently anyway. She also has Demolitions skill of 8 and some of the perks within so she chucks in some grenades from time to time.
For the extra companions...
I have Rose with maxed out Energy Weapons and Surgeon skill, currently on 5 in Weapon Crafting. Her perks are suited mainly for robot enemies. Even though she has Overload and Atomise she does nothing more than give little electric shocks to her foes.
Ralphy and his godawful voice acting with 7 in all three of his skills, Brawling most importantly, with every Brawling perk available at that level. He's a powerhouse with his fists by the way, when he lands a crit at least.
For the final companion I replaced Scotchmo with Brother Thomas. He hasn't been in my party for long so he hasn't been altered in any way. “Finally, someone who can deal decent damage” I said, and then he proceeded to get mowed down immediately in the next two fights we've been in. *Sigh* I miss Angela.
Now. Moving on.
I've got to the point of the game where my team of 4, plus three others, were sweeping entire settlements with relative ease. My team's main damage dealer among my four main cast, the absolutely unstoppable Jessica the Teenage Sniper, could mow down hundreds on their own with little assistance needed from the other members. We were on top of the world, until two things happened. First, I lost Angela, who, along with Jessica, was the one who carried the team when it came to combat. Second, I moved to California.
My confidence was mercilessly dashed the moment my team stepped from the burning helicopter and was shortly mauled by a bunch of dogs and badgers. We struggled through it but it was clear then there was an unprecedented difficulty spike before us. I thought it might be doable once we got our hands on better weapons and... well, that was half-right. The Leather Jerks were doable as long as we took them on one at a time but the final boss was unbelievably rough.
As of writing this my team is limping away from Santa Monica after yet another brutal battle consisting of being two-shot by killer nuns with Rose and my gunslinger medic Ahusaka burning through their medkits and trauma kits desperately trying to keep everyone's heads above the rapids. This fight proceeded an impossible battle in the brothel that I was only able to win by using an RPG I bought form Pistol Pete. We are barely scraping by every encounter in the game up to this point, even the random ones; and when I encounter a CotD squad that's an almost guaranteed reload. It's become clear to me at this point that I need to drastically change up the way I play if I even have a chance in the fights to come, so I'm writing up a gameplan before I go any further and sharing it with you for... clout I guess? I don't know, maybe this can help someone or at least entertain them for a while.
So. After settling at the campfire with bandages and stitches on nearly every inch of the team's likely very scarred bodies at this point, Caleb, the team's leader, calls a meeting. I'm going to go over the flaws that I've identified and see if I can figure out how to address them.
Flaw One: Two many skills, not enough points.
I jumped into Wasteland completely blind, not knowing anything about how to build characters properly. I thought it was a Might and Magic situation where you were stuck with the characters you didn't realise that there were characters you could recruit. As a result, and because of my incessant need to experience every avenue of an RPG, complete every side quest, open every locked chest and door, repair every toaster and ensure there is not a single dot of fog of war seen on any map, I distributed my points to cover every single skill on the list. This has resulted in a lot of wasted points in skills that are never used. Ahusaka has points in surgeon and assault rifles, but then I got Rose and Angela. Caleb had Brute Force which became redundant since we had the Deth Machine. This would be fine, and it was pre-LA, but I also severely underestimated the importance of intelligence. If I were to start from the beginning, and I'd really prefer to not do that, I'd give Hisa, my “thief” member, a lot less coordination and a lot more intelligence since she covers the most amount of skills. Now it takes, like, five levels just to get enough to raise one skill and I have to choose between smart-ass, safecracking, lockpicking or blades, and so all are not nearly at the level they should be, especially blades at seven. This means pretty much every skill check has a 26% chance, maybe 63% if we're lucky, if it's not just impossible; and forget the brute force checks. Caleb is trying his hardest but he can't keep up.
But that's all more or less minor, right? If it gets bad enough then I can Just keep bumbling around looking for fights until we've get enough levels to get the skills to acceptable numbers. That's probably the best way to address this.
I suspect that this point in the game the main combat skills should be at or near ten. As of writing this only two members are at ten. Ahusaka's pistol and Rose's energy weapons. The weakest guns in terms of damage. Great. Jessica is at nine in sniper rifles so that's good but my melee lads are seriously lagging behind. Hisa and Ralphy is 7 in blade and brawl respectively which is pretty bad but poor Caleb is at freaking FIVE in blunt weapons. Yeesh. So first order of business is get the melee skills to respectable levels and maybe stop wasting Caleb's points into heavy weapons since I barely ever use it.
Flaw Two: My builds don't work.
Hisa, as well as being the thief, specialises in blades. Her deal is that she doesn't have much hitpoints and doesn't hit hard but she is fast. She zips behind enemy lines and takes out the weaker but heavy-hitting enemies and dodges fire with her crazy-high evasion. She has a speed of seven with Twitchy so my girl can travel stupid far in one turn and still get off an attack. Then there's Caleb, who is the complete opposite. He is slow and typically starts his turn dead last but he can tank a lot of hits. His role is the bullet sponge, soaking up hits while the rest take them out. The problem is their weaknesses far exceed their strengths. Hisa is just way too flimsy that she gets taken out in three shots by those goddamn gunslingers! And due to how the AI seems to work, that being enemies attack the one who attacked them first, when Caleb walks out and does a “come at me bro” gesture, they completely ignore him, run straight past him and make a beeline for Jessica, who almost always attacks first because, well, she's the sniper, and because Caleb can only move about six tiles he can't catch up to them to protect her. Because of how slow he is it was rare that he manages to actually attack something back in AZ before the fight is finished. He's more like a giant cheerleader with his leadership buffs rather than contributing to the fight directly. Well, it's something.
Since then I've put some points into speed to mitigate that somewhat, bringing his speed up to three, but I wonder if that was the right move. As well as being one that can take hits, he was supposed to dish them out tenfold. With a strength of seven and with Heavy Handed, he's very inaccurate but on the occasions he does land a hit the opponent is in a world of hurt. Only he doesn't really hit all that hard. Maybe those two points in speed should've gone into strength. Oh well, can't be helped. I have tried having Caleb initiate the fight instead of Jessica so he's in range and can actually draw some fire but that usually ends up with me being seen first, which leads to arguably my most devastating weakness...
Flaw Three: The enemy always goes first.
If I had to pick the worst part of Wasteland, In pretty much every single battle I've been in, including AZ, If I didn't initiate the battle then I was in deep trouble. Every enemy goes first if they so much as catch a glimpse of you, even if you charge at them with a melee weapon. The game roots you in the spot as the enemy riddles you with bullets and descends down on you with their swords and mallets and what have you. As such it makes positioning pretty much impossible. What I wouldn't give for a pause feature.
But regardless of that, combat initiative is the bane of my current predicament. Beforehand I could just squeak by because I could go first if I initiate the fight, thus Jessica would be able to fire off two good shots at the beginning. This is no longer the case. No matter what I do the enemy always go first.
To counteract this I have two options before me. Either raise initiative across all my teammates or make it so I can weather the hits.
Flaw Four: Equipment leaves much to be desired.
I am fully up to date with my weapons, nothing wrong there. No, that's not the problem.
This is something I struggle myself with in RPG's. With games like Dungeon Siege and Torchlight I get to a point where I start ignoring rings and amulets. Anything below super-ultra legendary loot immediately gets tossed to the nearest merchant. I've got enough things to keep track of to worry about tiny loops that go around your fingers. That's kind of where I'm at with Wasteland 2. Whenever I'm presented with a trinket my eyes glaze over and I convince myself “nah, I don't need that” and throw it at the nearest shop as fast as possible. Note to self: Stop doing that.
What is rather embarrassing is that I don't actually have a trinket equipped on at least three of my squadmates and even more have trinkets that boost non-combat skills. In fact I've been so bad at this Ralphy still is holding the akita figurine I gave him when I first met him. Jessica's got a White Death, which raises her chance to hit with her rifle and lowers evasion, while Hisa is sporting some stylish aviator sunglasses, also boosting her chance to hit at the cost of one awareness. That's it, nothing more. It's as if Caleb, Ahusaka and Brother Thomas has the Ascetic trait except they're without the benefits.
Next is mods. Jessica is way too close to the frey and Hisa is wasting way too many AP on every swing of her sawblade. Why? I haven't got any. I've never recovered from Angela leaving my party. In hindsight it probably wasn't a smart move to rely on her so heavily early on and I've been suffering ever since her departure. Not only was she one of two of my main damage dealers as well as opening up new passageways with the heal of her toe but she was also my weapon modder. Since then we've swapped out to the latest fashion and haven't had the means to get them to a place where they're at their best effectiveness. Good news is since Rose is such a genius she's taken up weapon crafting since there's nothing else to sink her points into. She is currently at five so not quite ready for the top quality mods but the silver lining is that, unlike trinkets, I've kept at least one or two of every mod I've come across. At least, I'm pretty confident I did.
Trawling through forums of people in similar predicaments as mine, many people have stated that, though late game enemies excel in damage they are in fact lacking in armour penetration. Folks have indicated that if you're struggling to keep your squadmates upright it probably means you need better armour. Ahusaka is wearing a tactical suit, true, but Caleb and Not Angela does have power armour and they still go down pretty quickly so I'm not entirely convinced, but maybe there are some trinkets that can boost that. But I think it's time to give Hisa some decent armour. She's being shot down way to quickly to justify that small speed loss. So on the to-do list, give everyone power armour. Luckily the one thing I'm not struggling with is scrap.
Finally, part of the reason Angela was so good is because assault rifles are really good. It might be way too late but, well, Thomas has a lot of intelligence. He'd have to be level 38 to get to 10 skill in it but... it's an option. Better than SMG anyway.
Five: Targeted shots.
There's a mechanic that I've been neglecting for the entire game. In my defence I've never needed it. I do enough damage to almost one-shot every enemy and it's simply more accurate. My aforementioned trawling has given me insight on the necessity of this mechanic. There's no reason not to. My girl Jessica is crazy accurate, she could probably headshot folks for days from the other end of the map. In fact, Ahusaka does zero damage with his pistol despite being a crack shot. His skills are being wasted on heavily armoured foes. But if his skills were utilised in a more, say, indirect approach...
With all that in mind, here is my to-do list.
Step one: Grind. No matter which way you slice it, my team is currently not up to the task. Seven in the chosen weapon is simply too low at this level and don't get me started on Caleb. My team needs some more practice and I myself need practice using the targeted shots mechanic. This is going to be rough because every fight I'm usually holding on by a thread.
Step two: Upgrade. Once Rose has a firm grasp on screwing on random bits to weapons we need to hoof it back to the Springs to pick up those mods. I should also shop around for whatever trinkets I can find in the various locations I've visited as well as pick up some power armour.
Step three: Get smart. Brute force ain't gonna cut it anymore. I need to be more tactical, specifically making use of targeted shots. I think having Jessica exclusively go for headshots while Ahusaka shoots the limbs to disarm and slow since he doesn't do much damage. Once Hisa's sawblade is upgraded she could strike torsos to lower their armour. Other than that, positioning is even more important and treat elevated ground like a precious resource.
Step four: Assault rifles. consider training Thomas in the much superior firearm, or perhaps one of my other melee lads, of which there is perhaps one too many. I actually still have an AK-97. Ahusaka has it due to having 2 in Assault Rifles. At one point he was going to be proficient in both pistols and rifles but it's kind of late for that now.
In case I screw up so badly that I have to start again, as well as a gameplan for Wasteland 3, take note of which perks are in a skill tree. The Alarm skill for instance has perks that are perfect for Hisa, with Ghost and Quick Reflexes, that I never increased above one since Rose covered that. Thief characters with many responsibilities should have intelligence as a major priority so less coordination and more intelligence for her. Also, try not to cover every skill since there will be characters that will do that for you. Lastly, don't be afraid of setting a stat to one. Dump stats are a thing after all. While I did do it for all four of my guys and gals I was hesitant to do any more than one dump stat. Honestly, Caleb is the only one who really needs decent charisma. I just don't like the implication of having a character that is low in it.
This has been my attempt to identify the problems with my current setup in an attempt to salvage what I've got. I've got a bit of work to do to prepare but we'll see how it goes.

2020.09.24 01:40 Saavo90 Ending this friendship was my best decision this year.

Hi guys, I'm posting here mainly to vent and get this off my chest and hear from someone if there's anyone who can relate to this. This is quite long so bear with me.
I have been friends with someone for the past 5 ish years. I'm Turkish and she's russian (this is important for context). Let's call her A.... My Turkish community doesn't like when people marry outside of the community and she was dating someone from my community for 7+ years and it came to an end about 1.5 years ago when A was about 29 and he was 30.
I (F23) on the other hand, fell in love with someone outside of my community and ended up going through hell at home trying to convince my parents to let me marry him Let's call him M. I was 21 at the time, in college (M was in my classes) and working, and had to message M through twitter and email because my parents were checking my texts, calls, bank statements, location, etc. The amount of anxiety I had to go through at home was terrifying when my parents told me they've decided it was time for me to quit college and quit my job and that they'd find someone for me to marry, of course from our community. Long story short I found a way out, one day after classes went, got legally married on paper with the loml, was able to get my documents (passport, citizenship papers, etc) and take it somewhere safe and accessible for me. And after 5 months of being married, left the house and told my family I wouldn't be coming back as I've been married and they of course disowned and shamed me, threatened me, etc.
I am mentioning my relationship bc it plays a key role in the friendship with A.
A's ex left her and his family had someone ready for him to marry from overseas. And he didn't hesitate, which was a major red flag for me and I told her if he really loved her he would have fought for their relationship. A's response was he was being pressured by the Turkish community and his parents and didn't want to make them upset that's why he's going along with it.... I told her come on, I'm 9 years younger than him, am a girl, and have been through much worse at home, with my family when I tried to convince them to let me marry M. I was threatened, beaten, told I would be sent "back home" was constantly paranoid as they were checking my phone and monitoring everywhere I go, etc.
She refused and kept giving her ex excuses. Anyway, he got engaged to the girl overseas. I told her that's it she needs to drop it. A responded by saying he's not married yet so she still has a chance with him.
A good detail of A's and her ex's relationship I haven't mentioned to you yet is she used to tell me he would abuse her physically, mentally and sexually. She used to tell me he would force himself into her apartment, used to stalk her, not allow her to have friends etc. At times she would tell me he raped her multiple times but Everytime I was told of her being abused I told her that's it we have to go to the police to just get a restraining order even if she doesn't want to file a report against the rape, She gave him excuses and didn't do it.
Fast forward to after he got engaged to someone: she bought a house and asked M and I to help her move her stuff from her apartment to her house in the middle of the night so her ex wouldn't see where she was living. And we did this. We were there till 6, 7 am doing so. I was more paranoid than she was hoping that he wouldn't see us and where we were taking her stuff.
Well she moved settled in etc.. two weeks later I found out that her ex knew her new house and the address. I asked if she's okay and how he found out. She told me she was speaking on the phone with him and accidentally guided and gave clues to where her house is. And guess what he found it!
At that point I got really confused and angry.... She was constantly trying to run away from this dude, but yet telling me she still has a chance with him even though he was engaged, and made us move her stuff middle of night only for her to "accidentally" give clues to where her new house is. I confronted her she didn't take it well and told me I need to mind my business. A lot of similar incidents to this happened but I won't mention all.
Anyways a year later, her ex is now married, has a baby with that girl from overseas. She claims he won't leave her alone.
One day crying she called me, came over, explained she was pregnant from him and that she did it because his wife kept harassing her and telling her that she's infertile and that's why he didn't want her anymore.
She said she did it on purpose so she can check her fertility and prove everybody wrong.
Anyways, I told her not to tell him or anyone that's close to him bc he can become very aggressive and might do something. She said okay. The very next day she called me at 1 am screaming and crying. I thought something happened she said she told them all and that they were outside of her door and that she was scared for her and the baby's life. I managed to calm her down and asked if she would like me to call the police. She said no but I ended up staying up that night to make sure she's okay. She told me how scared she was and what he could possibly do to her to make sure she doesn't have that baby. Etc I really thought he would kill her and thought about just calling the police without her permission and sending them over there.
Anyways after things calmed down she told me all the things he said and how he didn't want that baby or her, etc. She told me she would never speak to him nor his wife or any of his family members unless it's through court. I told her good for her and told her I can help if she wants with paperwork and asked her to gather all evidence of harassment in one album/folder. A few days later she told me she doesn't want to do that because she doesn't want to stress the baby.
She had bought a house and a new car only a year ago and now that covid-19 hit. She lost her job and was having trouble paying her bills. I told her M & I will move into her extra room to help her situation and be there for her since she didn't have anyone else during this pregnancy. She said it would make her at ease since she's scared of her ex and we can help tell him to go away if he ever shows up again.
So we move in.
A lot of things happened that pissed me off in the process but I'm pretty patient so I let it go. However on the night of her birthday, M & I were taking out the trash at 11 pm and the dump was pretty far, at the very end of the neighbor and we were walking there when we noticed someone that looked like her, dressed up, hair and makeup done, and guess what!
It was her.
She was standing there talking to a man that looked a lot like her ex. To be fair I didn't have my glasses and didn't see his face entirely soi can't tell you 100% if it was him but it sure dang looked like him. Anyway they were standing there close to a a part of the neighborhood where nobody could see them. She had a bouquet full of roses and were talking. I told my husband, M, to keep walking and we came back home.
I didn't bring it up and needed some time processing what's going on before I calmly talk to her.
A few days later she knew M and I were going on a date and while I was gone she probed to see what he knew and told him
" oh that day! I was walking outside to get fresh air and some random guy found my address on Google and knew it was my birthday so he came to congratulate me"
When my husband told me this while we were on our date I was shocked. Shocked at the fact that shes continuing to lie to us. One of the main reasons we moved in was to keep him away and keep her and the baby safe. And it made me very upset the way she was going behind our back to see him. There was no way that some random person finds your address on Google and shows up on your birthday with roses AT THE VERY END OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD FAR AWAY FROM YOUR ACTUAL HOME/ADDRESS and catches you to tell you happy birthday.
Anyways, I confronted her a few days later and told her I wasn't being my regular self around her bc I was very upset and have been worrying my ass of the past few years about her. Everytime she calls me screaming and crying I'm so worried about what could have happened, ive stayed up many nights helping and worrying about her and would have appreciated if she was just honest with us so we could do our best to help her.
She got angry and started screaming that I'm just assuming it was him and that even if it was him that day that we saw it's none of our business because that's her baby's father.
I didn't even try to respond. I told her we would be moving out within the next two weeks. And we did. She tried to pull a scene on us on moving day but I told her I have no pity for her and asked her not to talk to me anymore..
So here I am, honestly, peaceful as can be, and very happy to get out of that friendship.

2020.09.24 01:19 Erutious For Your Talent

Ted looked at the number written on the paper, and his eyes grew large.
That was way more money than he made in a year, and this guy was offering it to him for…
"So, you want to pay me for...what, exactly?"
The man in the black suit stared at him, hollowly, from behind his mirrored glasses. He sat, nonchalantly, across the table at the small coffee shop Ted had written in for the last four years. Ted liked the ambiance here, and many other local writers seemed to think it was a great place to read as well. Tim could see many others around them, plinking away on their MacBooks or off the shelf Walmart laptops, as they wrote the next great American novel or the next hit screenplay.
The longer the man sat there, the more Ted wished he had approached one of them instead.
"It's straightforward," he said, his voice and cadence reminding Ted of Agent Smith in The Matrix movies, "we want to pay you for your talents. You come to our office, let us see your Talent, and pay you for your time and effort. Sound like something you might be interested in?"
Then he smiled, his lips sliding away from his perfectly artificial teeth, and Ted cringed all over.
It was like a dog who's been taught to smile, unsettling, and a little alarming.
But it was a lot of money.
"Let me think about it." Ted hedged, and the smile slid mechanically from the man's face.
He produced a business card, rising suddenly and holding it out.
"Let us know if you change your mind. The offer is valid whenever you're ready."
He left then, making his way for the door like a shark hunting his next meal.
Ted looked at the card and wrinkled his eyebrows.
It was a plain white business card, nothing fancy, with the words, "Libras Talent. Because your Talent should never go to waste."
Ted looked at it for a while as his laptop screen went into sleep mode, darkening and allowing him to see himself as he sat in contemplation.
How very curious.
Ted had been writing in some form or another for his whole life.
When he was a child, he drew pictures and created games for his friends to play. Ted's pictures, his mother swore, always told a story, and his games were never the haphazard mess that his friends often concocted. People who weren't even part of Ted's friend circle often came to join their games, as they were both fun and engaging in a way that was hard for a child to explain. His teachers praised his creativity and expected they would see great things from him someday.
As Ted grew, so grew his stories. By the time he was in middle school, Ted's works of fantasy were often entered into writing contests, and local student works projects. His playground games had evolved into role play games, and when Ted was twelve, he discovered the fantasy world of Dungeons and Dragons. This began a lifelong love affair with the game, and he took to the role of game master quickly. Ted's campaigns were immersive, his characters engaging, and his adventures never fell victim to the usual problems his friends seemed to encounter. Ted wrote well and, again, the adults in his life often praised him, expecting great things from him in the future.
It was a no brainer for Ted to study writing after high school. He had soared through what is normally a very trying time for teens by channeling his churning emotions into his medium. Ted had gotten more than one scholarship for his writing, and as college loomed, he put all his efforts into his work. Ted spent the next four years working on a BA in English and Literature, and in the end, he felt I had the expected tools to begin plying his craft professionally.
Now, Ted was trying to figure out how to turn that Talent into a paycheck so that he could pay his bills. Magazines liked his work but wanted writers with more experience. There were people online who would pay for stories, but not enough to live off of. Agents were interested, but they didn't want to take a chance on someone so young. Ted's writing was always well received, but there was always the ever-present But hanging at the end of all that praise. A few "Interested Publishers had approached him," but it was always the sort that buried the line of price amidst all that talk. Ted was twenty-six, four years out of college, self-published, untried, and no one was willing to take a chance on him.
Everyone, except Libras Talent, that is.
Ted Googled them, of course. He had been burned too many times before and wanted to see what was in store if he decided to take their offer. Their website was professional but soulless. Their credentials were numerous but were presented without any real pride. This soulless corporation wanted another book for their accolades, another pet writer for their trophy case. If Ted signed on with them, he would be just another soules shill who writes for nothing but a paycheck.
Ted's phone buzzed. He looked down and sighed as he saw a message from the power company. His check had bounced again, and they were going to shut his power off at the end of the month without some kind of immediate action. That likely meant that Mr. Kapish, his boss at the gas station, had given them bad checks again. He would never admit it, and this likely meant that Ted wouldn't get paid until the end of the month.
He looked at the card.
Or maybe he'd be able to keep the lights on after all.
He nervously checked his phone to make sure he had come to the right place. He had come to a flat looking building, a two-story white stucco building that looked more like a distribution center than a publishing house. Ted had worn his best interview clothes, a polo, and a pair of slacks, and he already felt underdressed and unsure about the situation. The outer facade bore a simple sign, white and stark, just like the business card.
Libras Talent
Ted thought about leaving, but the call of the money was too much to resist.
The woman behind the counter wore a similar smile as he walked inside. She was looking at the door, as though expecting him, and her pants suit and quaffed hair made her look assembled rather than styled. Ted was taken aback by her smiling regard, and he almost left. The waiting area was as stark as the facade, and the receptionist regard made him feel like he was marked.
Had she been staring at the door the whole time, just waiting for someone to come in?
"Hi," Ted said, "I'm looking for…"
"Welcome, Mr. Dreff. Mr. Sereph is waiting for you in the back. Please go right ahead.
She pointed to a door to the left of the waiting room, and Ted walked hesitant towards it, his strange feeling growing with every step.
Beyond the door was a long hallway of offices, names neatly printed on the doors. Mr. Sereph's office was the third in line.
Ted knocked, and a voice from the other side invited him in.
Mr. Sereph sat behind his desk, the too-wide smile stretching his lips painfully.
"Mr. Dreff, I'm so glad you decided to accept my generous offer."
Ted sat across from the grinning man, feeling like Faust as he met with the devil.
"It was too good a deal to pass up, I suppose," Ted said
"Why yes, the money is a fine incentive, isn't it?"
Ted shuffled in his seat, not liking the man's regard.
"So, how does this work exactly? Do I have to write something for you or…"
Ted blinked as a contract appeared on the desk. Mr. Sereph was leaning over the desk, that too wide smile stretching his face, as he handed Ted a heavy silver pen. Had that contract been there the whole time? Td sat back a little, the too-wide smile putting him off a little as the man leered at him.
"What's wrong? I thought you were ready to sign?"
"I am, but I'm curious to know what this involves?" Ted asked.
"You show us your Talent, and we pay you for you. Couldn't be simpler."
Ted looked at the contract, unsure of whether to sign or not. He'd heard of writers getting sucked into these unfair contracts before. He didn't fancy being kept as someone's pet writer; his Talent milked for god knew what. Ted looked down at the contract, but it wasn't particularly helpful either. They offered to pay him for his "Talent," but that was all it really said. It was very vague, not really saying anything other than that, with a lot of industry, speak in between.
As Ted hesitated, though, the money loomed up in his mind again. That was a lot of money, enough to live comfortably for quite a while if he was careful. No matter what they had him do, that kind of money could change his life. And even if it were repetition or degrading, he'd still be doing what he loved, right?
Ted signed the contract and pushed it back to the smiling man.
Mr. Sereph made it disappear before the ink seemed to be dry, and Ted was left holding the bulky silver pin in numb fingers.
"Excellent, now come with me so we can access your talent."
Mr. Sereph rose from the desk and led him out of the office. Ted followed wordlessly, still not quite sure what was expected of him. The long corridor slid past as they walked, the sameness a little disorienting.
Mr. Sereph stopped outside another nondescript door and held it open for Ted. Inside was a stark white room, cluttered only by a desk and a pen held in one of those ornate holders you often saw at weddings. Mr. Sereph nodded to the desk, indicating that he should sit.
"What do you want me to do?" Ted asked, still hovering in the doorway.
Ted wasn't sure he wanted to enter that unblemished space.
"Just take up the pen; it will know what to do from there." Mr. Sereph said, still grinning that troubling smile.
Ted hesitated a moment longer before walking inside, the door slamming like a coffin lif behind him.
Ted took a seat. On the desk was a single piece of paper, unblemished, and as he looked at it, he could swear that the surface moved. He didn't want to touch it, but it seemed to beckon him to none the less. He reached out for the pen, that instrument of creation, and it felt very right in his hand as he lifted it from the holder. He set the tip against the paper, and, again, he thought it moved. What was he meant to do here? What was he meant to write? Show them his Talent? How was he meant to do…
The pen came down on the paper, its tip blotting the surface as though through magnetism. Suddenly, Ted was writing. He was writing words, crafting stories, spilling ideas as the paper drank them down before his eyes. He spilled days, weeks, years worth of stories onto the pape as he wrote. His hand cramped, and his wrist ached, but still, the merciless pen took his words. The paper drank greedily, swelling as he worked. Ted's vision swam as he felt his words dragged out of him, sucked from his body, and he felt certain that he must die.
The paper swelled as he wrote, becoming sheets, a novel, a towering juggernaut of pages. The room began to fill with pages, pressing against the ceiling and bulging against the walls. Ted was powerless to stop his hand from writing, but soon the pages began to block out the lights, and he wrote in a state of darkness. The pages pressed at him from all sides, entombing him in the written word, but still, he wrote.
When he finally passed out, it was a blessing.
Ted woke up in his bed. His arm throbbed, the fingers and hand feeling like rubber, but when he tried to move it, he found it asleep. He shook at it, thinking about the weird dream he had just woken up from. He had written himself into a literal tomb, and as he looked at his arm, he almost thought he could see small blisters on his fingers. He sat down at his computer, looking through his emails for job offers when he came across a new email from Libras Talent. He thought it a strange coincidence that he had been dreaming about them, and now they were sending him a message, but he figured they wanted to make him another offer for his Talent, whatever that meant.
He opened it and read through the email, confused as he read over the contents.
Dear Mr. Dreff
We would like to thank you again for your Talent. Please find enclosed the payment for your Talent, and we hope you are satisfied with your transaction.
Regards Mr. D Sereph
Ted read the email repeatedly before opening the app on his phone linked to his bank account. Ted's eyes went wide when he saw the amount in his account. He goggled at it in disbelief. It hasn't been a dream, after all. He had sold his Talent he guessed. Ted grinned as he took thought of the possibilities. Mr. Sereph had been right.
This amount of money could be life-changing.
Ted sighed as he stepped back through the door of his apartment. He had been on a two-week vacation to the Bahamas, spent those weeks in the lap of luxury, and still hasn't made a dent in the amount of money Mr. Sereph had put in his bank account. It was a sobering feeling, being able to do whatever you wanted, living a life few even dreamed of.
Now he was back, though, and he supposed it was time to get back to work.
The money was nice, but it wouldn't last forever.
The news feed on his computer pinged to let him know that one of his favorite authors had just released a new book. Ted opened the link to look at the book but felt a surge of confusion as he read over the synopsis. It was a new novel, not like anything he'd ever written before. A world of high fantasy, a tale of adventure set in the world of Erudar, where the lord of the hunt sought the princess of…
Ted was astonished. That was his story! He had been fleshing that concept out for years, and his manuscript was almost ready for submission. He had been so close to sending it off...well, maybe in a couple of years, he would have. He just had to be sure that it was ready before he just sent it off like that.
The manuscript.
Ted had the manuscript saved on Google docs! Ted furiously opened the browser, putting in his information as he brought up his account. It would be time-stamped, dated. He could take it to the proper people and prove that his work had been stolen. He couldn't believe that something like this would happen to him. He had read about this sort of thing happening online, but he never dreamed that it would happen to him. It was unthinkable, it was impossible, it was…
His google doc profile was empty.
The screen was devoid of content.
He pulled open the drawer next to his desk, searching desperately for the thumb drives I kept as a backup.
The drawer was empty.
Ted searched his computer for traces of his manuscript, stories, and anything, but it had all been erased.
Ted had begun to panic then. What was happening? Someone had been in his apartment. Someone had stolen his work. Someone had taken his….
His Talent.
Ted combed through his emails, searching for the email from Sereph.
It, too, was gone, nowhere to be found.
It was as though he had never spoken with anyone.
He found Mr. Sereph after the third week of staking out the coffee shop. He had gone down to the building that had been Libras Talent, but the building had been abandoned. The doors were locked, the sign removed, and the building looked empty and forlorn. It had been too big an operation to simply close up overnight. He had asked the people in the buildings around them, but all of them only shook their heads, saying they didn't know anything about a talent agency or a publishing house. That was when he had taken to staking out the coffee shop. The place was always packed, and if Sereph was looking for other writers to swindle, he might come back here. He had brought his laptop the first few times but had stopped after the first week. He was too distracted to write these days, after finding out his life's work had been stolen, and all he thought about was having his work returned to him. He'd spent the last three weeks drinking coffee and keeping his eyes peeled. He arrived when the place opened and didn't leave until the final customer had shuffled out.
It was just after sunset on a Tuesday when he found him.
"What we're looking for is your talent."
Ted swung his head around sharply. The man was at an adjoining table, talking to a blond girl that Ted had seen hanging around lately. She was working on a screenplay it seemed, working hard it seemed, and it seemed she had gained the interest of Libras Talent. She looked over the business card and told him she'd think about it before leaving in a hurry. The man sat for a moment, watching her leave, before turning to look at Ted.
"Mr. Dreft, I hear you've been looking for me."
Ted jumped, not yet sure what he would say, as Mr. Sereph came sauntering over to his table. He sat in the empty seat that too wide smile still making Ted cringe. He took a sip of the cold cup of coffee Ted had left there and seemed to be waiting for Ted to speak, but Ted still wasn't sure how to begin this encounter. In his head, Ted had always been indignant, downright angry, but now, as he stared into that too-wide smile, he felt unsure of what he was doing.
"I assume that you're here to talk about your Talent. I must say, when it hit the bestseller list, I was shocked. I suppose we could reassess your price if you're looking for more money."
That lit the fire in Ted again.
"I want to know exactly what the hell you think you're doing. You break into my apartment, steal my work, clean out my hard drive, and just think you can bribe me with more…"
"I did none of those things." Mr. Sereph said with a roll of his eyes, "We paid you for your Talent. Your Talent was writing, and we paid you for it. You signed a contract and were compensated handsomely."
"Wait...you mean you paid me for my stories?"
Sereph scoffed, "Stories? Mr. Dreff, have you tried to write since you woke up in your bed?"
Ted thought about it. Had he written anything for the past two weeks? Felt compelled to write anything? He had signed his name to a few things, maybe written a text message or two, but other than that, he hasn't written so much as a sentence creatively. He had been having so much fun that the need hasn't arisen, and that should have been weird too. The writing was what Ted did. Without it, his life was…
"That's right. You sold us your Talent, rather cheaply too. But, your kind usually does. You cut your goose open too quickly and find nothing as valuable as what you had."
"So, what is Libres Talent? You sell ideas to other writers?"
Sereph scoffed, "Ideas? You're still thinking too small. Do you think that Talent is something that just lasts forever? Talent is a finite resource. It flows and ebbs. Some people are lucky enough to have a large tidal pool, but some people have to buy their Talent to supplement. Libres Talent finds those in need of Talent, literary, athletic, political, what have you, and we get Talent for them."
Ted's blood ran cold.
"So...I'll never write again?"
Mr. Sereph looked a little sad, "Sorry, kiddo, it looks like you'll just have to live like all these other talentless shlubs. But, hey, if you ever decide you want to buy some talent, do keep in touch."
He left a business card on the table and made his way out.
Ted just sat there, hearing the click of the keyboard and the creation of raw ideas, and put his head in his hands.

2020.09.24 01:18 Erutious For Your Talent

2020.09.24 01:02 Saavo90 Ended my friendship because of constantly being lied to

Hi guys, I'm posting here mainly to vent and get this off my chest and here from someone if there's anyone who can relate to this.
The amount of anxiety I had to go through at home was terrific when my parents told me they've decided it was time for me to quit college and quit my job and that they'd find someone for me to marry, of course from our community.
She had a bouquet full of roses and we're talking. I kept my husband, M, to keep walking and we came back home.

2020.09.23 22:45 TheCyhiraeth $19k Pre-COVID, $6k Post-Covid Connecticut Wedding Budget and Recap

Hi Weddit!
I did the thing and got married last week! It was amazing, even with COVID going on. Sadly, no official pictures yet. (I do have some photos of setup and flowers if anyone would like those.) This subreddit was helpful to me while planning, especially the budget recaps, so I wanted to return the favor and help someone else out!
I got engaged in summer 2019, pre-COVID, and started planning then. So, this breakdown will go through what I had planned pre-COVID for a 140 person wedding, and also my cut down COVID wedding. Both in Connecticut--the original wedding was planned at a venue, and the smaller one was at an AirBNB. For anyone looking into an AirBNB wedding, maybe this will help!
Pre-COVID, 140 person wedding breakdown:
Here, I cover the costs of vendors that were booked, with deposits down, and any other significant anticipated spend for the big wedding. Costs that remained the same over both weddings are shown with the small wedding breakdown, later! Apologies if this ends up confusing!
Venue: $4500
The venue was a park on the beach in New Haven with a lighthouse and carousel. The plan was to have the wedding on the beach, and the reception in the carousel building. The venue did provide chairs and table for indoors, but I had to arrange for outdoor rentals and linens.
Catering: $5500
Our catering was BBQ, and it was amazing! (We did keep the same caterer for the smaller wedding). The cost included apps for cocktail hour and the reception dinner. It also covered staff to help set up, serve, and clean up.
Cake: $330
The cake was a 2-tier cake to feed about 20 people, with sheet cakes on the side for the remaining guests.
Photography: $1380
The photographer was booked for 6 hours, and had some prints/art as part of the package. She showed me some examples of previous beach weddings, and they were stunning! More on photog later.
DJ: $850
The DJ and MC were lovely and were working with me to plan special songs/dances and keep the night flowing.
JP: $300
Loved our JP! We did use her for small wedding, more later.
Day of Coordinator: $850
Our DoC was lovely! We had planned to have her for the night of our reception, and she would help with setup and cleanup of everything. She helped me when I had planning questions and checked in periodically to ask what I was working on and what she could help with. Sadly, we did not get to see her in action on the day of.
Bartending: $900
The bartending fee covered the bartenders, non-alcoholic drinks, garnishes, helping to mix signature cocktails, and bar supplies. They were awesome with planning and I am sad I didn’t get to see them in action.
Liquor: $1000
This was an estimate based on 140 people, as my husband (ahh!) and I were going to be responsible for liquor ourselves. Our actual purchase is outlined in the small wedding!
Rentals, dishes, linens: $1200
This cost was for renting outdoor ceremony chairs (venue provided indoor chairs only), cocktail tables for cocktail hour, tablecloths, napkins, dishes, silverware, glassware. I used a couple different vendors in the area to book these, as some had better prices on items, such as tables, than others. Linens I planned to purchase myself from LinenTablecloth.com (and I did for the small wedding!)
Total estimated cost: $19,643
This includes all the décor, flowers, misc. items not talked about above!
Post-COVID, 12-person wedding breakdown:
Due to COVID, our venue ended up cancelling all 2020 events. CT also set requirements on guests at 25 people inside, 100 outside. Since our reception was planned to be indoors, I knew we would have to cut down in size. In the end, we decided on 12 guests (14 with JP and Photographer). The guest list included me, my husband, our immediate families, and 1 close friend each. In the end, I am sad that we ended up having to cancel some vendors that we truly loved, but it was a much more intimate and personal experience for everyone.
To the budget!
Venue: $4200
Almost the same cost as for the bigger wedding, but this time was an AirBNB. I booked a beautiful, old mansion for 3 nights. We used it for the rehearsal dinner, wedding, and a post-wedding brunch! It was roomy enough to have all guests stay overnight and had a pool table, tennis, ping pong, and a lovely yard. It ended up being a perfect spot for an intimate wedding.
Catering: $745
We kept the same BBQ caterer and same menu, but this time cut down to feed about 20 people instead of 140. We loved them and the food was amazing!
Cake: $115
We kept the same baker, as my husband loved her more than anyone else we looked at. We kept our 2 tiered cake, and just removed the extra sheet cakes from the order. Part of me wishes I had kept the order for the sheet cakes though…cake for days!!!
Photography: $950
We kept our same photographer, but went from 6 hours down to 4 hours. She was incredible! She came up with some creative and fun shots for us to do, and I am looking forward to getting my pictures back. I’m not that comfy in posed pictures, but she made us feel confident.
JP: $300
Kept our JP. She was kind and flexible with the location change. She also worked with us to customize the ceremony to be exactly what we wanted. My husband is not a gushy romantic, so we were able to customize the ceremony to be personal without sounding too cheesy or like a fairy tale.
Videographer: $50
This was my dad! Since not everyone in our families could be present, we live streamed our wedding over Zoom. I bought a tablet holder, microphone, and super long USB cable off Amazon and we used it to set up Zoom on my dad’s tablet. (We already had a tripod at home.) He set up the call to start recording once he logged in, so we automatically had a video of our ceremony. The relatives had a blast chatting with each other pre- and post-ceremony. My dad also walked the tripod around during the portrait session so the relatives could feel like they were with us, mingling.
Liquor: $120
We stopped at a liquor store and bought some of our favorite wines, beer, and ciders.
Linens, dishes: $80
I bought tablecloths and napkins off LinenTablecloth.com, and a disposable party dinnerware set off of Amazon. The set included dinner plates, dessert plates, silverware, and cups for I think around 50 people. They were surprisingly good quality, and I don’t think anyone minded that they were disposable.
Dress and alterations: $300
I chose a beautiful dress off Azazie and had it tailored at a local seamstress. It fit me fantastically! I didn’t want to spend more than $500 on the dress, so Azazie was a good fit for me. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and customer service.
Hairpieces: $25
Bought a sparkly wedding headband and hair clip off Amazon. Loved them.
Flowers: $70
I bought 50 roses off of Costco and stopped at the grocery store to pick up extra flowers I thought would look nice. Greenery I cut out of my yard off some bushes that were overgrown. Then I made the bouquets for me and 3 bridesmaids the morning before the wedding. I was so pleased how they turned out, and not to toot my own horn, I got some compliments from the family and vendors! 😊 Spare flowers and greenery were used to decorate the arch, which I did with my sisters-in-law the morning of the wedding.
Stationery: $70
I purchased save the dates off of Vistaprint in postcard format for my husband's side, since we didn’t have all his family’s emails. I did my save the dates using Paperless Post, since I did have most everyone’s email. When we cancelled our big wedding, we ordered cancellation postcards from Vistaprint, and Paperless Post let me notify everyone for free!
Misc.: ~$100?
My fiancé is very handy and built us an arch out of metal piping. Other misc décor included dollar tree vases, cake stand from Marshalls, robes for bridesmaids.
No DJ, rentals, day of coordinator, or bartenders for this wedding. The DJ was me making a Spotify playlist, and one of my sisters in law monitoring a Bluetooth speaker. Bartending was done just by setting glasses on the table, and beewine out on the counters. My husband did make a whiskey blackberry cocktail and we served it in my parent’s crystal punch bowl. The day of coordinator was mostly me with my endless spreadsheets, and my lovely family (both immediate and new in laws!), who all volunteered to complete tasks on my task sheet. I am happy to share spreadsheets or playlists if they would help anyone.
Total: $6500
Maybe that was a little costly than your normal small wedding/elopement, but we did cover lodging for our guests and had the venue for 3 nights. Overall, it was an incredible experience. If anyone has specific questions about vendors or the day please feel free to ask me!

2020.09.23 22:29 tintinteil Very long VBAC tale. Super not-graphic version I wrote for my family.

TLDR: A VBAC story. Featuring: Advocating for vaginal birth past 40 wks to OBs. Waters breaking at home. Really hard contractions. The choice to get an epidural. Pitocin to advance labor. Having Doula(s). COVID and baby-monitoring precautions. Long labor and big(ish) baby.
If anyone wants to chat VBAC details PM me!
To start with, Perrin's pregnancy was unusual for a few reasons. First, our timeline for deciding to have another child was accelerated due to Laurel's transition. We wanted to avoid having to try IVF later on when I was older so we started trying for a second child earlier than we might have otherwise. Second, I would be facing a TOLAC, a trial of labor after c-section. There are many factors that are considered when a person wishes to have a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) as the risk of the rather serious issue, uterine rupture, is higher for us. Some of my factors were rather positive and not-so-great. Third, most of my pregnancy happened during the initial COVID-19 outbreak. Laurel was able to come to maybe one or two of my early pregnancy appointments and then medical facilities enacted restrictions that meant I went alone to our anatomy scan and every other appointment. It was disappointing and sometimes stressful to not have my spouse and advocate with me as I tried to navigate the slightly varying information of the OBs in a group practice. We also didn't have the opportunity to go to birthing classes or tour the hospital (although it was the same one from Cassidy's birth it had been a while). Meanwhile, the rules about masks, visitors, and other restrictions at the hospital shifted as the pandemic continued. Given these reasons, we eventually decided to hire a doula, who would be able to provide guidance on many of our concerns and be an extra support in the uncertain times. Even the process of finding a doula wasnear complicated by COVID-19 and we were lucky to end up with two different doulas who worked together to ensure we had the help we wanted, which honestly was wonderful since we got double the doula for the price of one.

My pregnancy with Perrin was a different experience than what I had with Cassidy. I had more uncomfortable symptoms through-out and by the end I was really feeling the classic: "get this baby out of me!". Added to the general discomfort was the growing concern and pressure from the OB team about the apparent size of the baby vs. the integrity of my uterine section and their wish that I commit to a c-section date, earlier, rather than later if they had their way. On the other hand, I spent a lot of time listening to summaries of studies and reading through standard guidelines which supported my wishes to have a VBAC.

The Thursday before Perrin's birth I went into the office for my 39 week appointment and asked for a membrane sweep. I hoped that a sweep would move my body closer to beginning labor on it's own and I would be able to avoid the c-section. The process didn't work out, as my body wasn't even far enough along for the OB to perform the sweep. I felt pretty crushed, like my chances of TOLAC were being slashed. The OB and I talked about a plan for another sweep and scheduled a c-section for the next Friday. I didn't have the mental stamina to process both the failed sweep and effectively make a plan that I wanted. I went to the car and cried. The next day, after talking to everyone and reading more, I called the office and asked to virtually conference with an OB so that I could amend the plan to something I actually felt good about. After going to sleep in the spare room during the night, Cassidy came in Monday morning asking how apple pie was made. I pulled up a video on my phone for him to watch and we spent the next hour or two snuggling, dozing, and learning to bake. It was a wonderfully cozy way to start our last day as an only child and mama. Later, after a very reassuring and productive conversation with one of the OBs I had a second sweep attempt scheduled for Tuesday, a 40 week appointment scheduled for Thursday, and the process to cancel the c-section put in motion. After which, I took a nap, thank goodness, as I would need it later.

The rest of the day was spent tidying up the house and hanging out with Cassidy as Laurel intermittently worked on finishing up our crib modification. At 7pm I was squatting to reach something on the floor and felt a sizable "blub". I waddled off to the bathroom to change and investigate. I was feeling pretty suspicious my water had broken, but didn't want to jump to conclusions. I began texting my doulas and let Laurel know. After experiencing a few more "blubs" and passing a much more substantial amount of liquid during while on the toilet, I started texting and calling family, friends, and the OBs to arrange going to the hospital. I particularly remember a thought popping into my head when I had my first "blub". The classic beginning of many-a birthing tall tale: "On a dark, stormy night...." At 7 pm that day the sun was shining brightly and it was a balmy 85 degrees or so. However, by the time we left the house at nearly 11pm we had been enjoying the sky-show of a dark summer-thunderstorm for several hours. I left the house in my raincoat. Our friend, Adam, came over to stay with Cassidy as Poppy, Annie, and Bryce rushed to finish helping Bryce move his things to Indy.

At the hospital, we met our first doula of delivery, Amy. She helped us navigate the halls and get settled into our room. At that point, I wasn't contracting much or very far along in any way (the OB had insisted I come in pretty early compared to what might be requested of other people whose water has broken, because the standard is to closely monitor people attempting VBAC) so it felt almost silly to have her there. One of my biggest fears was having an IV line placed, I've had such bad experiences surrounding them in the past. However, our nurse was able to pull in a nurse assigned to surgery that night who did an amazing job, I almost wanted to name the baby after her! I also had a COVID-19 swab test, which wasn't particularly pleasant, but survivable.

At around 1am, we were finally all settled in to try and get some sleep. As soon as I turned on my side to settle down, it seemed as if the contractions picked-up big time. After about an hour, I gave up trying to sleep and we set-up to work through managing contractions as my body got itself ready. Amy helped to suggest different positions and get me in the shower to keep me going. I progressed nicely to 8cm by 9am and it seemed like Perrin might be with us that afternoon. Our doula, Amy went home and our second doula of delivery, Claire arrived. Around that time a transition occurred in my labor. The contraction went from intense, but manageable, to what felt like uncontrollable and beyond my ability to remain human. The labor team was telling me that I needed to not push, and I think that I was, but I honestly had very little concept of what my body was doing at the peak of a contraction. I had gone from moaning and breathing through to a guttural scream through peaks. When a contraction started I would tell myself that I would be able to handle this one. I would be able to focus-through, that I could manage the peak, but every time it seemed like I got a peak I was barely clinging to my mental self, and then the peak would keep going, increase in intensity, or double or triple peak beyond my capacity. I think I maybe did an hour of that. After which my progress was checked, when I told it was the same I decided it was time for an epidural. I talked to my team to reason through my options. I had hoped not to receive interventions as they lowered the rate of successful VBAC. In the end, I asked for one. If my body kept pushing the way it was, which I was not able to control, I might become too swollen to deliver vaginally besides which, the amount of pain I was experiencing felt like it would drive me either to an utter breaking point or ruin the birthing experience entirely. The OB thought that, given my current stage and recent progress, an epidural wouldn't slow the birth down much so I was hopeful we wouldn't lose momentum. Laurel and Claire supported me while we tried different methods to manage the contractions as we waited for the anesthesiologist. The epidural was placed around 11am and after it settled in we all got some much needed respite. I was able to sleep at last. During this time, I was lapped by people in the room to our right. There had been a birth not long after we had settled in at 1am and then another in that same room at around 8am. It was actually encouraging to hear their newborn cries, a sweet reminder of what we were there to do.

Unfortunately, after some time it became clear that the epidural had indeed slowed my progress down and there had been minimal or no change in a few hours. The OB was expressing concern about the amount of time since my water had broken and the general length of time I had been in labor, again, due to my previous c-section longer labors can be riskier. He suggested a low dose of pitocin to try and encourage my body to move along. Happily the pitocin slowly did the trick, I started to get back to the original level of contraction sensation (intense but manageable) as my body began approaching 10 cm. Claire helped to work out laying with a peanut ball to encourage Perrin to turn and drop better into place. Every half a centimeter the OB announced was the best news I'd had all day. We were doing it. I was going to be able to have a VBAC. Through this time, the nursing team had a lot of difficulty tracking my contractions and keeping the heart monitor on Perrin, which was further complicated by his and my unusually heart rates. So, through-out this time alarms kept chirping alerts to the point that we were given permission to just turn them off ourselves. Eventually these monitoring issues resulted in a nurse having to physically hold on the heart rate monitor and then later internal contraction and heart monitors placed in me and on Perrin's scalp.

At about 4pm, the OB declared that I was ready to push, but that it was going to be a marathon, not a sprint, because Perrin was still situated very high. I was thrilled. We were doing this. We were going to make it. Over the next hours, I practiced my pushing techniques. Perrin's heart rate indicated that he would not tolerate back labor (although it was much easier to push that way), so the team helped my flip from side to side as I pushed over the next hours. The lead nurse, Megan, suspected that Perrin was tangled in his umbilical cord which was what was causing his resistance to laboring on my back. I was more interested in how things were going with my body than I expected and asked for a mirror to observe and have more visuals to direct my body. Laurel stood by my face and would open and close her hand to help me visually focus on my breathing, while the nurses would encourage me to push, and Claire would remind me where to direct my body force. Each contraction came with a three-set of pushes. Then I would take deep calming breaths to get our heart rates back down and Laurel would give me a sip of water. It was so empowering and hard and rewarding. After every push, I felt even more confident that Perrin and I were going to have this VBAC and I was filled with such happiness and pride.

At 7pm, the nurses were getting excited and the room was reset for the imminent arrival of a baby. There was a staff turn-over, but the nurses that had been with me since the last shift change stuck around because I was so close to delivery. Megan, who had admitted us the night before then clocked out and later returned during my labor, had said she had been surprised I was still there for her next shift (when she left I had been in the midst of the very hard transition). She went to do her exit paper-work but came back for the grand finale after 24 hours of labor. Her nurse-in-training also stuck around.

For three contractions I was told: "this time Toni!" The medical team and Laurel could all see his head. Due to the crowd, I couldn't see the mirror anymore, but I could see Laurel. The joy, excitement, and tears on her face caused a wash of pride and confidence that made it easy to focus on the ecstacy of the final moments rather than being frustrated with the multiple "last pushes" or the discomfort of having a baby head lodged on the cusp of delivery for 9 sets of pushes. When he did finally emerge enough to be helped out, the OB did shout out for me to stop in the middle of a push. I believe this was when he needed to unwrap the cord. I was surprised that I was able to manage it, but I did. The pulling and wrenching out done by the OB was not enjoyable, but at that point I was already emotionally ramping up to meet Perrin. I did notice that Laurel cutting the cord, something that we hadn’t planned but I’m glad she had the chance to do.

I was surprised when he was placed on my chest. I didn't know he had been passed off to the nurse to hand to me. He looked very blue to me and he seemed to take a long time to cry. I was telling him that we did it. We both worked so hard and we did it. The nurses said he pooped on me, but of course that was of little importance to me at the time. I was given stitches and shots (apparently I was losing a bit too much blood) and the placenta was delivered. I was mostly occupied with Perrin as they scrubbed him off briefly and tucked him under my gown. I had already seen him rooting around for milkies, and sure enough, with very little encouragement I was able to latch him and feed him on both sides. I was so pleased and proud (Cassidy and I had struggled for weeks to get our nursing coordinated).

He was of course, weighed and measured: 9lb 1 oz and 21 inches long. Delivered at 7:36pm (that's 24 hrs and a half hours of labor from when my water broke) with 3 hours of pushing. Not as big as Cassidy, but no small fella either. His hair and eyes are lighter, while his brow is heavier. On the recovery ward he was given some extra tests due to the length of time I was in labor after my water broke. He also had some fluid suctioned from his tummy since he was bubbling and spitting up amniotic fluid when what he needed was space in his belly for milk. Through-out this story, I've called him Perrin, but Laurel and I didn't really decide on his name until the next morning. Though before, and increasingly so after birth, we were already fairly confident that he was Perrin Babb and not the alternate, Emmeric Rose, that we were considering. The recovery from my vaginal delivery has been leaps and bounds easier than my, relatively easy, c-section delivery. That combined with the ease of breastfeeding (and probably the wisdom of being a second time parent) has made the last few days feel manageable and even enjoyable. I feel so much more confident and content and have so many people to thank for that. I imagine there will be harder and easier days to come, but I am looking forward to having this sweet family grow.

2020.09.23 21:35 KCl515 I graduated 8-19-20

My graduation wasn't a surprise, it was planned; my daughter was in breech and refusing to move, so we scheduled a c-section for that date. I've had plenty of surgery and wasn't terribly scared about having a c-section, if anything I was anxious about meeting my daughter.
For the most part it was uneventful and went according to plan. I showed up at 7am to check in with L&D and get prepared for the big show. I was brought right in and set-up; the nurse started a line and put me on a monitor and finished my admission. My husband sat dutifully in a chair and watched in wonder as they got me ready and he stared at the bevy of medical equipment hanging around. As someone who works in nursing, this was nothing exciting to me. My nerves started to get away from me as it was apparent that we were going to be heading into the OR. I have the redhead gene that makes anesthesia a trick at times and having only had general anesthesia for all my prior surgical procedures, a spinal was new to me. They brought me in and introduced me to the surgical team and the anesthesiologist, my OB came in and I felt relief to see a familiar face. They had me sit at the edge of the OR table as the anesthesiologist talked me through what she was doing; one of the RN's came and stood in front me and held my hands and provided a shoulder to lean on as I rounded my back for the spinal placement. I didn't feel a thing! However, drugs work FAST and before I could even lay back on the table my legs were already going numb. They got me into position and started setting up the drapes and getting ready; this happened really fast. My blood pressure dropped quick and they had to adjust and give me a bolus keep me afloat. It was the strangest feeling in the world to be completely numb and yet be able to feel pressure and things moving. They brought my husband in to come sit at the head and watch and within minutes she was out. I watched as they whisked this purple blob with a full head of hair over to a team waiting to check her out and do her Apgar's. My husband got to join them and take pictures; I heard her crying and they told me that she was 8 lbs 2 oz. I was immediately overwhelmed with emotions. They were closing me up and it sounded like an indy pit crew working furiously as they did a sponge count and did their final assessments to make sure everything was okay. They brought her over all bundled up and I lost it; immediate tears. She was having some trouble breathing, so she stayed with me a little while in recovery and I got her to latch and start nursing; she was a piranha and aggressively gave my nipples hickeys!
I have never experienced such a high - I immediately fell in love with her and I have never experienced such a thing before. I was bursting at the seams with an overwhelming love for someone that before that day, I had never seen in person. Now I understand how people can have a whole gaggle of children; that feeling was amazing. I finally made it to the room that would be my temporary home for the next couple of days as I adjusted to being a new mom. We have three dogs and two cats at home, so my husband came and went throughout the day. At night I sent her to the nursery so that I could sleep and recover. The nurses were absolutely amazing and helped me to navigate this entirely new realm that I had just become a part of.
I had intended to breastfeed if possible; I had a breast reduction 14 years ago and knew this might be a struggle and I was right. My milk was delayed and didn't really come in until I got discharged and was home. I have been pumping since then and I have seen lactation quite a few times to work out potential roadblocks; we have been supplementing with formula. My output is pretty low, so we comfort nurse at night and in the morning and I pump pretty much around the clock to give her about 8 Oz of breastmilk a day. If there's anyone else out there in this boat, you are not alone and after a lot of hormone fueled crying and disappointment I will firmly tell anyone that fed is best; you do your best and that's all you can do. Whatever you can give is wonderful but don't beat yourself up otherwise; this mom thing is hard, especially in the beginning.
My daughter Saoirse Emilia Rose was born on 8/19/20, but so was I - I'm an entirely new person now and I wouldn't have it any other way ❤️
For all you ladies expecting and afraid of a c-section, don't be scared. This whole experience for a first time mom is intense and so worth the journey traveled to get there. Thank you for this awesome subreddit and Good luck to all the ladies in the home stretch!

2020.09.23 18:15 throwRA833826 I (20F) regret asking my boyfriend (21M) to move in?

So things were rough for a bit financially, I’m used to be pretty stable with my job and was able to get a new place by myself (me and boyfriend used to live together).
We’ve dated for about 1.5 years now. Throughout a whole year and 3 months of our relationship, he was cheating, barely paid me any mind, and took me for granted. He never wanted sex, never complimented me, and never appreciated all the things I did for him (cook, clean, expensive/thoughtful gifts, notes, etc.)
Since I’ve moved out, I guess I was kinda using him as a way to help me move and build furniture. I know, I shouldn’t have used him, but I was so deeply hurt and needed the help.
My “plan” was to use him, then dump him. He’s changed a lot since I found out about his cheating, actually buying me gifts, cooking meals, complimenting me, and just genuinely appreciating everything I do.
He was staying with me before to help me around the house, and I appreciated the help even though I didn’t really feel any romantic attraction for him.
About a week ago, I caught him in another lie - it was SO small. He said he wasn’t watching porn (I don’t care if he does, however, one of the reasons we broke up for a short while was because he had a porn addiction, and would rather watch porn than be with me), when I knew he was (it was obvious, he was in the shower for a long ass time). He admitted to it, but I made him leave and take all his stuff.
I realized I really do kinda need his help around the house while I work. I like that he can watch my dog while I’m at work, and do some chores. I called him and asked him to move in with me (he was on the verge of being homeless since his lease was up, and in the moment it seemed mutually beneficial). I really needed help with the rent, and felt that was my only option.
Well, now I got a raise and am getting sufficient hours at work. I don’t really need him anymore, I’d rather hire a maid and pay the rent myself. His presence just makes me angry knowing all he’s done to me.
I can’t lie, I do like his companionship and extra help, but I’m not sure it’s worth it anymore. I finally took off my rose colored glasses and feel very little romantic attraction for him. It’s like we switched places, because now he is obsessed with me almost. He’s so attracted to me, always wanting sex (I used to have a high sex drive and he never wanted sex, but now he just repulses me), buying me gifts and flowers, complimenting me, talking about spending our lives together, etc. I know he genuinely cares because when I first found out he cheated, he didn’t care that we broke up. But now, when I’m even mad at him he has a breakdown and is so scared he’ll lose me. Me and his friends are close and they’ve showed me screenshots where he’s admitting to messing up, asking for advice on how to win my love back and make it right, how I’m the only girl who’s ever truly loved him for who he was, etc.
My problem is, I don’t really want a relationship with him. It’s more of a convenience thing. He’s not on the lease so I could just kick him right out, but I don’t think that’s morally right. I also would feel bad giving him notice to move out when he just moved in. I know I messed up by inviting him back, but I wasn’t sure how I would make the rent if I didn’t. It was a moment of weakness on my part.
Do I just go on pretending that I’m his happy girlfriend and accept his love, letting him stay here since it’s more convenient for me? I feel trapped now, and I did it to myself.
TL;DR - I invited my cheating boyfriend to live with me because I wasn’t able to financially support myself, but now I can and am not sure what to do about him.

2020.09.23 17:55 brennen_p1 My Thoughts on the finalists performances + My thoughts on this season as a whole

Ok so we made it! Last night’s finale night wasn’t the best finale we’ve seen......a lot of acts faltered, but then again a lot of acts proved themselves tonight. I’ll give you my thoughts on each individual performances, plus my thoughts on the acts as a whole this season along with if I thought they deserved their finale spot compared to other finalists from past years. After that I’ll give you my thoughts from this season as a whole! So let’s do this:
  1. Roberta Battaglia - Ok so there’s no denying Roberta CAN sing. She does have an incredible voice, and she proved that in the auditions. But, for some reason I’ve been feeling let down by her quarterfinals, semi finals, and now finale performance. I feel like her rendition of Shallow was her best, and then she picked the obvious, karaoke song choices. No hate against her at all, I just feel like tonight she was flat on some parts, and obviously was very nervous. It also felt very stale, everything seemed blatantly choreographed. Obviously I know everything is choreographed, but you should try to hide it. Every single step she took, every single note she hit seemed like it was over rehearsed. It didn’t feel fluid, it didn’t have emotion. I felt the same way from her remediation of “What About Us.” Her quarterfinals performance was good, but again I just didn’t feel the emotion.

  1. BAD Salsa- Man I love them! Every single time they perform I am shocked by how fast they move, some of those stunts seem INSANE. Seeing them perform live in front of the judges was really cool, I feel like they are V.Unbeatable compacted into two people. That being said, tonight they didn’t have their best performance. In their audition, quarterfinals, and semi finals everything seemed so fluid, it was like they were spinning at lightning speed, and tonight I did notice some mistakes. It felt a little choppy to me unfortunately. That being said, they probably are the most talented people in this finale. I find myself enjoying them every single time they hit the stage, and I’m so glad they made it this far. Winner worthy? I think so. If you look at all 4 of their performances, they have constantly upped their game and proved why they deserved to be here. I wish tonight they showed some stunts we have never seen before, as most of them we have seen done, or done better. But for what they do, they are incredible.
Best Performance: Quarterfinals

  1. Kenadi Dodds- Ok so I don’t really know if this is a controversial opinion, but she had an amazing night tonight. On a night where I really wanted to see people step up out of their comfort zones, I think Kenadi did that the best. I was feeling very let down by her audition, quarterfinals, AND semi finals performance. Her original in QF might’ve been my least favorite performance from the live shows. She didn’t step into her confidence yet, and yeah she has a good voice, but just having a good voice doesn’t warrant a finale spot. Covering Carrie Underwoods is a very, VERY hard task, and I don’t know if she rose to that occasion, but from what we’ve seen before, I think she gave her best tonight. I do agree with Howie on this one, when she’s really belting it out, that’s where she hits home. She did the absolute most she could’ve to make the top 5. Obviously I don’t think she will win, but from the notes she hit to the confidence she had tonight, she did a very good job.
Best Performance: Finals
Deserved Finale Spot: No
Standing Ovation: Yes
  1. Brandon Leake- Ok so I KNOW this is a very controversial opinion, but if I’m being completely honest, Brandon is my favorite act not only from this season, but one of the best I have ever seen. People have been saying they don’t think poetry is a talent, but I disagree 1000%. He moves people from his words, he tells his story, he’s not afraid to comment on huge issues. From revealing deeply personal stories about his father and sister, to talking about the injustices he faces as a black American, to talking about now the future he invisions for his child, he has constantly gave top tier performances all season. Every single time I watch him I feel compelled to give him a standing ovation, he is.......I can’t even describe the emotions I feel watching him. I know A TON of people are going to disagree with me but this is his season to win. He is called to move, and that’s what he has done. If he doesn’t win, I will be very disappointed, but I understand. I feel like you can’t compare him to singer or dancers or magicians because he is in a completely different category. He is far and beyond the best spoken word artist I’ve ever seen. All of the praise beside, I do feel like tonight was his weakest performance of all 4 he has done. He didn’t have as much to work with, and I feel as thought it might’ve been rushed to put together. I feel like his semi finals was his most powerful, and to me, that’s my favorite performance not only of the season, but probably of all of the seasons I’ve watched (I started watching in S11 religiously and have continued since then). He is my pick to win tonight.
Best Performance: Semi-Finals
Deserved Finale Spot: Yes
Standing Ovation: Yes
  1. Broken Roots- I know a lot of people hate them. I KNOW THAT. I am kinda one of them. I don’t hate them, but I feel as though they haven’t lived up to the other singers hype. They will obviously be in the top 5 cuz country does incredibly well on this show. In the Air Tonight was an.........interesting song choice to say the least. I feel like tonight, as I do with a lot of other acts, was their weakest performance of the season. Country is where they excel, and since they moved out of that lane, who knows where they’re going to end up. I don’t have a lot to say about them except they have been such a wildcard this season. I don’t think there’s ever been an act eliminated in judge cuts that was brought back so last minute and has done so well in America’s votes. Looking back on their auditions, quarterfinals, and semi-finals, I would say yes, they deserve to be in the finale. But tonight, I’m not so sure. I LOVED their backdrop, but it just felt very campy to me. The performance didn’t go anywhere besides the belting they did (which ended up sounding very screamy and uncontrolled). Look, they’ve done good in the competition, but good isn’t good enough to be in the finale of the biggest talent competition in the world. AGAIN, no hate to any of these acts, I just think there were better singers to fill this spot then Broken Roots.
Best Performance: Semi-Finals
Deserved Finale Spot: No
Standing Ovation: No
  1. Bello Sisters- I feel the same way about Bello Sisters as I do about Broken Roots. They’re just okay, even though this act requires so much strength. This was, again as I keep saying, their weakest performance to date. In the auditions, I actually predicted them to be in the finale (I know, CRAZY!!!). They were incredibly unique, there strength was INSANE, and I was so excited to see what they would do next. Their quarterfinals didn’t disappoint, they brought danger, the music, the lighting, all of it was insane. I also have the same feeling about their semi-finals, though it didn’t live up to their other performances. Then we saw their finale performance. The 70s/80s theme was........nice? The danger aspect with the crossbow was really stupid because there really wasn’t any danger. I felt very confused most of the time, the tricks felt disjointed, and it just didn’t flow as nicely as the other performances. I am really disappointed because I was one of the people rooting for them, and tonight they kinda let me down. I don’t think these three could sustain a whole Vegas show, and since they were in the Dunkin save in the QF, sadly they have no chance of winning. But hey, maybe they’ll come back for champions and surprise us all just like Duo Transcend did. But........it’s unlikely.

  1. Archie Williams- ! HOT TAKE INCOMING ! Archie actually stepped up to the plate tonight. Yes, his audition was great. Yes, I predicted him into the finals. No, he isn’t the BEST singer. I think most of that had to do with song choices, he picked very obscure songs that nobody could really connect to. Tonight he picked one of my favorite songs, “Blackbird.” I think he did the absolute most he could’ve done tonight. I agree with Howie, every single time he performs he brings on a whole new meaning to a song. This felt so emotional, so profound, so intense, it honestly took my breath away. He was very pitchy into the longer held notes, but for some reason that didn’t take anything away from his performance. He stuck to his roots and did an incredibly emotional song that I feel resonated with a lot of America tonight. No, I don’t think he’ll win the whole thing, but you really can’t take away from his story. 30+ years??!?!?!? Nobody can even IMAGINE what that is like. It’s truly one of the craziest stories I have ever heard in my time watching AGT. So yes, I thoroughly enjoyed his performance tonight, even if a lot of you didn’t. Great job tonight Archie, you really did it.

  1. Daneliya Tuleshova- Lemme be COMPLETLEY honest for a minute. I didn’t get the hype. Her audition was okay? Her quarterfinals was great, but pitchy and she fell flat on some of the runs. Her semi-finals was great, but again bad song choice and she did fall flat on some parts. But tonight.......she blew me away. A lot of people have been telling me they didn’t like the song choice, but I feel like she picked the best song. He wasn’t flat once, some of the notes she hit were incredible, she was very seasoned, and to me was one of the best performances of the night. Not to mention the backdrop is probably my favorite out of the whole live shows. Before tonight, I predicted she would be near the bottom, but I think she’s deserving of the top 3. I get the hype now, I do!!!! Again, I saw her on worlds best and I think she was better there, but her voice obviously has gotten deeper and with that brought challenges. She regained her confidence tonight, and I’m glad she did because watching last night, I felt like she saved the whole finale. She brought us out of a drought of a couple of bad acts and SOARED. I’m actually so glad she did because I had high expectations for her tonight, and she exceeded them!! She isn’t my pick to win tonight, but if she did I wouldn’t be upset.

  1. Alan Silva- Ok so I’ve had a love-hate relationship with him and this act. His audition was incredible, but the song choice was okay? His QF had a HORRIBLE song choice, and he just did more of the same I felt like. His semifinals had a better song choice, but he was on a night where production felt the need to add fire to every single act, so that’s where I stood with that. Tonight.....wow he was incredible. I felt like he gave a finale worthy performance, one of the only ones that I felt gave such a performance. I actually felt like I was in Las Vegas watching this incredibly artistic act. I’ve been waiting for him to do something where it isn’t just danger danger danger, I wanted him to add more art to it. And tonight he finally did that AS WELL as having danger with it. He is one of the 3 I believe stepped up tonight and did what I was hoping for. The finale of his act was actually my favorite moment of tonight. This is where I feel like I’m kinda glad that they moved to universal because it just looks so stunning outside. Would his act be moved inside for Las Vegas, or would they be able to hold it outside if he ended up winning? Who knows lol. Also, did the judges watch his act outside or where they not there? I assume they weren’t cuz we didn’t see them, but then again, who knows.

  1. Cristina Rae- Here we are. The last performance of the season! First off I have to say, thank you Heidi for picking an amazing golden buzzer. I think we can all agree she is Heidi’s best GB of all time. Now, let’s get to the performance. This was a VERY unexpected song choice. But, I feel like it strangely worked. She showcased her belty notes which I feel like we missed, and of course her falsetto which SHE SLAYS. I think she is the most talented singer I have EVER SEEN on this show, she’s up there with the likes of Brian Justin Crum and Glennis Grace. I think she may very well be going home with that one million dollar prize and a headlining show in Vegas. That being said, I feel like the song choice was a wasted opportunity.....::I had hope she would sing creep at some point in the competition. I feel like that would’ve solidified her win even more. Her semi finals and finals song choices were good, and she did exactly, and more, of what I was expecting, just not the best song choices. That being said, she had the best performance tonight by a mile. I’m so glad she closed off because it was a SLAYYAGE of a performance. Winning worthy? I think so, we’ll just have to see. Looking back, she has constantly delivered every single time.

And there we go! This season as a whole was probably the craziest I have watched. I feel like this season's GB's were the best I have ever seen (with the exception of Roberta). We saw the most changes with auditions having no audience, no Heidi (for the most part), and guest judge Eric Stonestreet, to Judge Cuts being outside, to live shows with no audience and no Simon, to having Kelly Clarkson and Kenan Thompson, it was interesting to say the least. I feel like this season also has some of the most unique acts we’ve ever seen, with the likes of Sheldon Riley, divas and drummers of Compton, Bello & Annalise, and Jonathan Goodwin. I also feel like there was a SHIT TON of comedians this season, yet most of them were cut in judge cuts, and then again none of them made the semi finals. As a whole, this season did the best it could’ve done with the circumstances, but it failed in many ways. For one, most of my favorite acts were cut in the QF, meaning we only saw at most 2 performances from them. This also had a lot of unexpected eliminations, from the likes of Sheldon, Brett, and Malik, all acts I feel were good enough to make the finale. That being said, I enjoyed the audition portions the most out of any of the seasons I’ve watched prior. It was very diverse, and gave me some new favorite performances. Now, here are my standings for the seasons as a whole:

2020.09.23 16:39 -kelsie Who murdered 31 year old nurse Ally Brueger during her afternoon jog in Rose Township, Michigan in the summer of 2016?

Alexandra Brueger, the only child of Franz and Nikki Brueger, was born on November 9, 1984. Ally was only 4'9" and weighed 98 pounds - her parents called her "small in stature, but mighty in presence". She was a graduate of Holly High School where she was editor of the school paper and graduated with honors. She was working on her Master's degree in creative writing (awarded posthumously) while working as an RN at Providence Park Hospital in Novi, Michigan. Writing was her passion while nursing was her profession. She loved animals, silly jokes, and her family. She aimed to get a PhD in poetry. During Ally's childhood, Nikki would check out at least 50 books a week at the Holly Public Library to satisfy her daughter.
Ally jogged the same route on rural Fish Lake Road in Rose Township nearly every day for a decade without issue. However, on a sunny Saturday in July four years ago, someone decided to end her life with a shotgun. She collapsed on a nearby lawn. A man who lived nearby called 911 and attempted to plug her wounds until the ambulance arrived - but Ally didn't make it.
Michigan State Police say they found four shotgun casings at the scene. Only one of those shots hit Ally, but it was fatal.
One of the few pieces of evidence publicly available is that witnesses claimed to have seen a white or light-colored four-door sedan traveling at a high rate of speed on Fish Lake Road around the time of the murder.
There have been no named persons of interests and no arrests. Michigan State Police are saying nothing about the case other than they are still investigating, and the case is listed on the Michigan Cold Case website (linked below).
It didn't take any time for her parents to come up with their number 1 suspect: Wes Sutherland, their daughter's ex-boyfriend. He responded in kind by pointing a finger at her parents.
“We have spoken with Wes. We’ve interviewed him a couple of times now. He’s a suspect in this incident,” said Michigan State Police First Lt. Michael Shaw. But F/Lt. Shaw says Sutherland is not the only suspect. “Unfortunately, unless you rule people out or have a very solid alibi, everybody’s a suspect. Including mom and dad right now,” said F/Lt. Shaw.
The parents have since been cleared by police of any involvement in their daughter's murder. The same cannot be said for Wes Sutherland, however.
Ally met Wes at the hospital they both worked at a couple of years prior. She and Wes had broken up only 3 months before her murder, and she had just moved back in with her parents after moving out of the home she and Wes shared.
Wes says he and Ally broke up because she wanted to get married immediately, and he didn't. Ally's parents say they broke up because Ally found his profile on a dating site.
In the Crime Watch Daily episode about Ally (linked below), the police state that they were suspicious of Mr. Sutherland from the first time they interviewed him and they felt he was holding back information from them. His alibi was not able to be verified - Wes says he was at home and had worked with Ally the night before, and she was supposed to come over to his house that morning but she didn't.
The police asked Wes to take two polygraph tests, and according to Wes, the first one was inconclusive while he failed the second one. Wes doesn't think he actually failed the second one and that the police are lying to him as an intimidation tactic. He also made accounts on both Websleuths (username combatmedic2121) and Reddit, where he continued to state negative things about Nikki and Franz. Wes claims to be in touch with investigators and says the FBI is now looking at the case, and he also said he was suspicious of a male coworker of Ally's that he thinks could've been involved. Wes also stated he and Ally had been planning an engagement and were working on their relationship at the time she was killed, while her parents say that is absolutely not true.
“At the time of her murder, Ally was planning an August 2016 trip to Florida to visit a guy she had casually dated several years ago,” her mom said.
Lt. Shaw says detectives are looking at 3 possible scenarios:
During a media interview last year, Nikki Brueger said the following:
“We are so disheartened that it’s been three years and we still have no justice or truth in our daughter’s case. We have dealt with inconsistent and conflicting statements made by the detectives, which I refer to as their ‘double talk.’ This insensitive behavior makes you feel very powerless, and it grinds away on any optimism or hope that we try and hold on to. And, then there are the hurtful comments made by people who claim to be our friends,” she said. “Statements like ‘Oh, something else will come along to replace your child,’ or ‘At least you have a body, and Ally is not missing,’ and ‘Isn’t the case cold by now, are you sure they are really working on it.’ And lastly, ‘Maybe the police will never solve her case.’"
Nikki Brueger said she is disappointed that the Crime Stoppers posters she distributed around Holly and Fenton were put up for a short time, but have since come down. She said one retailer told her it “scares their customers".
Ally left behind her parents, many close friends, and her beloved dog, Zeus.
Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering up to $8,500 for tips leading to the arrest of a suspect in Brueger’s murder. The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, or ATF, is offering $5,000. Anyone with information can submit a tip anonymously by calling 1-800-SPEAKUP.

Bullying is a serious issue in today’s environment. It’s an issue most of us face in our childhood and youth and it leaves scarring effects on ones personality.
However, the world is full of people who rose above bullying and used the experience to express their feelings and help others in handling bullying in their own life.
The story of Lovy Singh Bhatia is one such story that will inspire you and encourage you to rise above the situation.
“My story starts with bullying. I was not a perfect guy nor an average guy in my class. I belong to a single-parent family that is solely run by my mother since I was 4 years old. As a single child, I had to spend my maximum time in an empty room because my mother used to work at that time and I was too young and not allowed to go outside that house. My mother also used to teach me after coming back from work. She was the only person in my life who believed in me.”, says Lovy Singh Bhatia.
As Lovy Singh Bhatia grew up, his class mates and college mates used to bully him just for fun but that impact Lovy’s life very hard.“Ragging gave me a dent on my brain which was hard to remove. I spend my 2 years of life in a hostel in which my roommates and other students used to comes to me anytime, like at the midnight, and try to scare me or beat me. After that ragging part, my mind was working like an abnormal guy because in my mind I always think that I am going to bully the next day also and my mind stops working. My mother was also losing hope on me and thinking that her child had a problem. In that empty room, no one was there to help me or listen to my problem. I was not telling my mother about those ragging because my mother was the only person who earns for us and if I transfer my problem to her, she would also get in tension and would not able to give her best in her job.”, says Lovy Singh Bhatia.

Penning his thoughts on paper and rapping provided a good vent to Lovy’s emotions. “From 6th class, I made a best friend whose name was 'Rapping' ”says Lovy Singh Bhatia.
Lovy Singh used to write all his emotions on a paper to feel relaxed. Rapping gave him confidence and Lovy Singh Bhatia became an expert Dancer by the time he was in class 9th.
Rubik’s Cube was another turning point in Lovy Singh Bhatia’s life in mid of the 11th class.“My life took a positive turn because I got a Rubik's Cube (6 side color box). Rubik's cube and rapping were like the core of my heart, I start playing with my cube and loved to solve it again and again. I was also a 1st runner up in the school nation Rubik's cube competition 2016.”, says Lovy.
People started thinking that Lovy is a smart guy and start asking him how he solves this cube in just 15-20 seconds.
“I liked that thing that people are coming to me to get advice and knowledge. Then I planned to make myself different from others and make my own personality rather than copying anyone, I start changing my personality, start doing meditation, and giving time to myself.”, says Lovy.
“My mother also feels that I am doing a good thing in my life and she was also proud of me, which was bigger than anything in my life. When I entered my college life, I start posting pictures on Instagram and at that moment Instagram was not at hype, but people were engaging with that app.”, says Lovy.
He started getting a good response and people start following him. Lovy bought a DSLR for the shoot and started clicking high-quality photographs.
After some time, a brand approached Lovy for a collaboration. Soon, Lovy was getting more offers for collaboration as a part of influencing. Lovy started approaching brands from outside India like - USA, Canada, Europe, etc.
“People start respecting me and it changed my life from a caterpillar to a butterfly.”, says Lovy.
At this moment, Lovy Singh Bhatia is a multitalented artist and social media influencer with talents like rapping, dancing, speed cubing, lyricist, a small card magician, influencer, and many more.
Lovy Singh Bhatia was also invited as a media influencer in Roadies to take interviews of judges.“I met my idol Raftaar also. In today's date, I worked with more than 200 companies in all over the world and still counting. I have ‘n’ number of achievements within a few years and my only goal is to not stop and achieve targets on daily basis.”, says Lovy
“Now those people who used to bully me in my childhood come to me and ask how I achieve this level, I simply say them that I just believe in myself and give my 100% to my life rather than listening to others because I remember they always used to say that, "you will not be able to achieve anything in your life and be a looser always" but I just turn the tables. Now, people who are younger than me and who are elder than me, both come to take advice from me and ask how to grow their business and achieve their goals because I think creative and give the best advice to them.”, says Lovy.
“I remember when I was a child I always pray to God to give me a superpower but I was not aware that God gave me that superpower which is my brain and I was unaware of that thing. Right now, my brain is my biggest weapon, and no one can take that superpower from me. In my real-life story, I just want to tell you that if you think that you can't do anything then you are just supporting those guys words who used to say that same thing to you. Just believe in yourself and remember one thing,'COUNTING ALWAYS STARTS FROM 0'.”, says Lovy.
Lovy Singh Bhatia’s is truly inspirational and it encourages us to focus on the positives in life and rise above our circumstances.

2020.09.23 11:04 Nylacat HELP! Struggling with comphet in a pandemic!! Looking for advice

This is gonna be a long one. Trying to work out my sexuality.
25(F) in 6 year relationship with a man. I don’t think I have ever felt sexual attraction to him. He was the first person I ever had any sexual experiences with, and I enjoyed finding out what sex actually was with him. However, I was always progressing with sex because he wanted to...I never felt/feel that “I want to rip your clothes off” feeling that he gets. We haven’t had penetrative sex in several years now because I tense up and get a lot of pain (although have enjoyed it in the past). Always dread having to give him handjobs/head. When he does the equivalent to me, I always try and reject his advances but eventually cave in, and enjoy it when it happens. I have always wondered what society’s obsession with sex is, as although I orgasm, I can always just do that myself...?
Have been questioning my sexuality for a while. Read about asexuality, but it never really felt “right”. Then I somehow stumbled across Rose and Rosie on YouTube, then trans you tubers, then lesbian tiktok. Which of course led me here and to learn about comphet! I guess I didn’t realise that straight women actually really want to have sex with men.
It feels like comphet fits me, but I’m struggling as I don’t think I’ve ever felt sexual attraction to anybody, and I don’t know what it is supposed to feel like!!
Thinking back I can’t find any “aha I was so gay” moments. My sexual fantasies were always centred around “forbidden” or “secret” sex eg teenage pregnancy, hidden male gay relationships. Never lesbian fantasies, although do enjoy lesbian porn.
However, I have had some “gay” encounters. Once at a house party when I was 15, I kissed a straight girl who was upset about her break-up. When I was 18 (and newly dating my current bf) I bet my housemate that I could kiss the hot girl quicker than he could (never thought anything of it and brushed it off to my bf as just messing around with a girl).
I think I have the same reactions to attractive men/women that I see. And I was always somebody who said “all women find beautiful women attractive”.
Also, I have had girl friends during secondary school kind of reacting negatively towards me because I was “acting gay”, although I didn’t see myself as that at all e.g. touching bums (which I still do now 🙈😳).
But I think my main barrier to accepting that I could be a lesbian is my lack of experience and that I’ve never felt sexual attraction to anybody (I don’t think?).
With my boyfriend and COVID-19 (and also live in a place where the nearest gay bar is over an hour away) I have no way to “test” myself.
TLDR: questioning whether I am a lesbian or not but have no idea what sexual attraction should feel like?!?!

2020.09.23 09:20 A-friendly-fellow WASTELAND 2 CALIFORNIA GAMEPLAN
